Reasons To Play The Clarinet

Hiya :)

I have played the clarinet for quite a long time and it has probably been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.  I've grown more confident, met some amazing people, played in amazing venues and I also now know how to play the clarinet!

I saw this and snorted.

10.  My clarinet case took up quite a chunk of my locker.
9.  Uhmmmmm tuning is my WORST NIGHTMARE!
8.  Tell that to my wallet.
7.  We look the opposite of cute when we play.
6.  This is true.
5.  Also true.
4.  If you're talking about a dainty horse then sure, true.
3.  I despise high notes.
2.  Never get on the wrong side of a clarinet player.
1.  Uhm NO..  When you're not playing in a concert or competition and you have to sit your clarinet up right on your thigh then take it away to play and you have a ring of spit on your leg.  Yeah lovely.

But I will say I love playing the clarinet.  Sure busting your lip when you play for way too long isn't fun (can't have vegemite, burns like a *****) but wow I am so glad I decided to play clarinet!  I've had the same crappy plastic students clarinet for over ten years and wouldn't swap it for anything!

Until next time, keep smiling :) :) :) xx

Thinking About Blogmas!!!

It's the most wonderful time of the year.....

Hey there!

Christmas is practically right around the corner, 32 days to be exact (for me anyway) !!  I am excited!

From spending a great deal of my time on YouTube I know there is a little thing called vlogmas and when I first started this blog, I remembering thinking that if I was still blogging by Christmas, I would consider having a crack at it!  I've been reading through previous Blogmas posts and am really quite inspired!

I'm also from Australia (if you didn't know) and we are currently in Spring at the moment and when it's Christmas we'll be in summer and it will be stinking hot!

Someday I would love to have a 'white Christmas' someday...  I've only been to the snow a few times, and loved it!  Apart from when I had snow chucked down the back of my little snow suit.....  Didn't like that very much haha!

But yes, I am hoping to do blogmas leading up to Christmas!  I've already jotted down some post ideas I would like to include, so keep your eyes peeled for those!!  I also do want to say sorry in advance if Blogmas is a flop for me, but I am determined for it to not be!!

I hope wherever you are in the world, you're well and thank you for reading :)

Until next time, keep smiling :) :) :) xx

Honesty About Music

Hello there!

Where to start this.. We're all friends right?  We're all honest with what we blog about?  Right, cool.  So honesty is the best policy, I've always been told this.  Sometimes it is hard to be honest, you may not want to hurt someones feeling, or you may find yourself in the wrong books with people, but at the end of the day it's important to be honest.

Music.  I love music.  Music has been a massive part of my life.  From dancing around the sitting room listening to The Beach Boys and using pillows as surfboards, to playing the violin and clarinet through my school years and just in general listening to music.  I love music.

Everyone has different tastes in music.  Some people like folk, or rock, other people prefer classical or pop music.  And do you know what?  That is 100% fine.  I may not like the music you like and you may not like the music I like and look at that, that is perfectly fine.

For the most part people will accept what you like to listen to.  But this isn't always the case.  And if annoys me so much!  There are artists that my family and friends listen to and I don't really like it, but I keep that to myself.  I accept that they like that type of music.

Thing is, I like One Direction.  I wasn't there from the beginning, I've only got their CDs, I haven't been to any of their concert (thank god for people who take a camera and record the concerts!), I just enjoy their music :)  I won't scream or lose my cool when I see their face on a poster or magazine and I know that I will never meet them and you know, I think it's safe to say I won't be Mrs Horan in the future.

I don't hide that I like One Direction.  I don't think you should have to hide away from what you like just because your family and friends don't agree.  I have friends who like Justin Bieber.  I'm not a fan of his but I'm not going to make them feel crap because of it.  If they want to listen to him, I don't have a problem with it.

I like my music.  You like your music.  It's my choice what I listen to.  It's your choice what you listen to.  Simple as that.

I'm happy to say I like One Direction (there are many other artists, but I wanted to use 1D as an example) and I'm not going to stop listening to them just because it's not "cool".  It's not "cool" to bag people out based on what music they wish to put in their ears!

Right and there is my little rant about music and honesty....  I just can't wait to live in a world where we don't get judged on what music we listen to!

Thank you for reading :)

Until next time, keep smiling (and listen to whatever ever you want!) :) :) :) xxx

Stress Less!

Everyone stresses.  Whether it is over something big like results for uni and school or something small like not remembering if there is any Vegemite left... Yes I stress when there is no Vegemite, what can I say?  I love me some Vegemite!

I will be the first to admit that I stress way too much.  And even now that I'm on holidays I am stressing up a STORM. Not the best thing to do in your holidays but there are a few things that are helping me get through it!

I like to dance to my choice of music.  At the moment I had had McFly on replay for AGES!  I'm lucky in the sense that I don't get bored of songs and I absolutely love their music so no problems for me!  But when I can, and when I think no one is watching, I dance.  My dancing abilities are amazing.  I feel that is important to point out.  I have all the moves.

Reading also calms me down, even though I have lost a book (hello stress) I love to just find a place to sit and read through a magazine or blog posts.  Being outside is amazing as well.  I am so lucky with where I live.  No one is over looking you, there is grass and trees and everything just smells of nature.  There are birds chirping and sheep doing their thing and I just love it.  Minus the bees haha being outside in the fresh air, is just an instant calm for me :)

Also with it being holidays, means there are no assignments to do, no lectures to attend, no deadlines to meet...  Basically it means I can spend time with my friends and family and the topic of conversation is hardly ever uni.  Us being us the topic of uni will always pop up but to be honest it usually isn't that positive and I am not going to type out what we talk about!  What happens in those conversations stays in those conversations!

But myself and a few friends went a played a few games of laser tag.  I've only played it once before and wasn't amazing but boy was I crap this time when I played it!  Came last both times!  But did have the 3rd best accuracy so I'll just keep telling everyone that haha I had a lot of fun though and did a bit of exercise while I was at it!

Probably one random way of calming me down was doing the dishes.. Yep, you heard right.  I open Spotify and play some music (no guesses, McFly) and just wash away.  Dancing and singing takes place naturally haha

Hope everyone is doing well :)

Until next time, keep smiling :) xxx

Interior Love | Exposed Brick

Hey there!

Aside from my massive love of interiors which feature timber I also have a thing for exposed materials.  And in this case exposed bricks, masonary whatever you feel like calling it!  I absolutely love when people honor the material they are working with and when people paint or just cover up brick walls I sometimes question their motives haha I know people will have different design styles to me so this is all my opinion and feel free to disagree with me!  I just love exposed brick!

                                           Credit                                                                                             Credit

I really love the combination of exposed brick and timber in the image above and to the right.  Fancy that haha also the pieces of furniture are amazing and suit these interiors amazingly!  Rustic, warm, timber, touch of industrial!  Ah perfect!

                                            Credit                                                                                                  Credit

These are just some of the amazing interiors I came across while I was having a little session on Pinterest.  I find that exposed brick gives the interior warmth and shows off what the building used to be.  At uni, my last studio assignment was like an adaptive reuse of the building and I wanted to respect that by showing off what was already there!  And I think when yu have exposed brick, it just gives the space characters and adds something that a coat of paint or wallpaper just can't achieve.

Right now my dream house is looking like a loft space with an exposed brick wall.... So uhm anyone know where I can purchase one?  Good price too if thats alright heheheh

Anyone else share my love of exposed brick?  What interior style do you love?

Until next time, keep smiling :) :) :)

Hello November

I will be perfectly honest.  It is freaking me out that it is November.  Next month will be December, Christmas will be here in a blink of an eye, then the New Year will roll through and next thing you know people will be talking about it being 2015.

But for now, it's still November and I have just under a month til our final uni results are released... I have this nervous sick feeling constantly in my stomach.  Happens every semester and I hate it!  I have one class which I am not feeling overly confident with after receiving my grade for a specific assignment, so yeah fun nights ahead for me when I can't sleep and all that's in my mind is whether or not I'll pass!

However I am feeling sort of confident about my studio class.  I don't want to say that I'm fully confident because I don't want to get ahead of myself and wake up to find I've failed, if that makes sense.  The assignment was worth 65% and basically had a whole lot riding for it.  I had to present it just under a week ago and to say I was nervous was an understatement!  I was happy with my design, sure there were things that I would like to change now, but that is always going to happen with me.  What made me the most nervous was who I would be presenting in front of.  There would be the rest of the class, our tutor, another member of staff, a local restaurant owner (who has some amazing restaurants!) and what freaked me out the most an actual interior design from the state would be there.  I've spoken to a few designers over the course of my time at uni but never have I had to basically pitch one of my ides to them.

I didn't eat.  Didn't really want to throw up on anyone!  I also didn't want a repeat of the last time I presented an assignment for studio.  Got so nervous that I felt like fainting, so in the minutes leading up to my presentation I was giving myself a pep talk.  Was going along the lines of "come on Emma, you've got this.  Don't throw up, don't throw your model if things don't work out.  Just be yourself, say what you need to say and everything will be dandy,"...

Long story short, I somehow had the jurors laughing before I had even started the presentation!  Kirsty (one of the teaching staff) had asked whether I was ready to present and instead of saying a confident YES I opted for the "oh you know, no not really I feel like I'm about to be sick," to which she replies with "would you like half an hour or more?"  I asked for an extra 24 hours (cheeky) and she chuckled and I was introduced to the other jurors and I started talking!  Out of all the presentations I have done at uni this was definitely my favourite!  I was myself, somehow made the class laugh, and the jurors liked my design!  SIGH OF RELIEF FROM EMMA!!

I invested so much time in this assignment and I am so proud of it!  I know how to use ArchiCAD and my Photoshop skills are improving!  #emmaischuffed

And this is become a longer post that I intended!  And also doesn't have much to do with it being November... Opps!!

Until next time, keep smiling :)

Polyvore | Work Station

I believe I am the Queen of Procrastination.. I''m meant to be tidying (my mess from the last few weeks of uni have spread across the house) but here I am typing away!

I thought I would share another home set which I had created on Polyvore a little while ago, one which I do quite love and wish I had the money to have a room like this in my future home!

Presenting probably my ideal work station!  I love warmth in materials and when I saw a few of these pieces I did get a little excited.  I can just see myself working away here, and probably getting distracted but hey it's the thought that counts haha!

What would your ideal work station look like?  Also semester 2 for 2014 has just finished for me so fingers crossed I'll be more active! :)

Until next time, keep smiling :) :) :) x
