~Alannah and myself ~ Banana smoothies are my FAVE ~ I'll have this thanks ~ Want to travel so bad ~
~Mini rant about music hehe ~ Discovered a love for hanging plants ~ Again "summer" ~ Flowers from tumblr ~

If you want and you don't have too you can check out my account here :) (@emmadaisy___) ;)

I'll be doing one of these near the end of each month so quite looking forward to that!  I don't think there is a label that you'd put on what I post.. It's a mixture of everything, and if you stalk my account you will see I did the whole "use whiteagram with every photo because I want to be cool" and one day just stopped because it got annoying haha

If you're on Instagram come and say hey or you could leave your username in the comments and I'll pop over!  Also what are some of your favourite Instagram accounts?  I'd love to know! :)

Until next time, keep smiling :) :)

PS!! Come and say hello!!! :) x

The Glass Ceiling

There is a theory in Sociology called the Glass Ceiling Theory.  Without going all Sociology geek on you, the theory refers to an invisible barrier which prevents a person from achieving further success.  You can see this a lot in the work place and closer to home you can see it within friendship group.

You have that one friend who wants to be the best at everything and they'll do anything to always be the best, even if they're not.  Yes I do realise that I didn't do a very good dive back in grade 10 for the breaststroke race, but I didn't see you swimming, you 'critiqued' my swimming in every race I competed in.  That friend annoyingly might be your best friend, and although it won't seem obvious, the little things they say in a 'joking' manner really aren't jokes and they're just layering on the glass ceiling they're building over your head.  Those invisible barriers are placed above your head and sometimes you notice them   but other times you don't, and you're oblivious to what your 'friend' is doing.

But to the builder of the glass ceiling which was over my head for six odd years.  I went to university to study interior design and I had to take a class which taught us all about the structure of buildings.  One, that showed me how poorly you had built your glass ceiling and also as I got older (and wiser) I grew to see what you were doing.  And your glass ceiling collapsed.  I was blind because you were my best friend.  Who would except their best friend to actually want to do this to them?  Best friends are meant to be like sisters.  They're supposed to care and support each other.

For years I turned a blind eye to the snide comments you made towards but now I see them and I've broken through that glass ceiling and I've come out a better and stronger person.  It's sad that I now don't call you my best friend, or my friend for that matter, but in a weird way I honestly thank you for what you did for all those years.  And I'm also still taller than you (even when you wear heels) so you trying to be the bigger person, in more ways than one has backfired and still won't happen.

Word of advice.  Don't put a glass ceiling of your friends heads so you can get ahead of them, that isn't cool.  And for the people who have a glass ceiling over their head, try to break the ceiling, as hard as it may seem, and painful with the outcomes, it needs to be done.

Also I am not talking about breaking an actual glass ceiling.  That is dangerous and no one wants to end up in the emergency part of the hospital, so break that invisible glass barrier above your head, but don't touch the actual glass ceilings!

I don't know where this post came from quite frankly, but it's something I felt needed to be written.

Let me know what you think of the glass ceiling?  Have you experienced it before?  Comment away!

Until next time, keep smiling :) :)

The Liebster Award (again!)

One of the things I love the most about the blogging community no matter what type of stuff you blog about, everyone is so polite and there are these little awards that go around and you get introduced to so many more amazing blogs.  The Liebster Award is all about promoting small blogs, blogs that have under 200 followers and I think it's wonderful for this little award to go around!  Strangely I've been nominated once before for this award, you can read it here if you'd like, but more weirdly enough I've been nominated again, three times and I am flattered that I've been nominated.

So I would like to thank Tori, Joanne and Innes for nominating me for the Liebster Award :) if you haven't already checked out their blogs please do :) they are lovely girls and all have beautiful blogs :)

The Inspiration/Vision Board

I've got a wonky cork board hanging up in my room and I think it is time I freshen it up. A lot of the images have been up there for a few years and sadly there are a few people I don't talk to anymore so time to change things up!

There are an abundance of quotes, some photographs I've taken myself, photos me of and friends (old and new) tiny piglet in red boots (this is essential for cuteness), also have some necklaces hanging there with my VIP lanyard I got from the Celtic Thunder Concert, and also two medals I won at music championships!  Only thing I don't like about my cork board is where it's placed in my bedroom, I wouldn't mind having it above my desk so now to have a brainstorming session about whether I can move some furniture around to make this work!  Power points are going to be my biggest problem because I've already measured the furniture up and it can all fit!  Electricity why do you have to cause problems!

I've been looking on Pinterest for some inspiration for my own Inspiration/Vision board!  These boards are personal things and I always love seeing what other people have done and that gives me little pops of inspiration on how I want to make my own!  Here are some of my favourite picks!

                                                credit                                                         credit
With these I love how the board is actually a bit of sturdy wire frame, and instead of pins a series of pegs and clips are used to hold everything in place.  This is a very minimal and stylish desk area and I love the single bit of lights down the left hand side, it's not over the top and compliments it's surroundings.

                                                credit                                                                                          credit
I feel like this first image was some sort of net, maybe a tennis net or even a wire gate?  I'm thinking wire gate but I just love how this looks, it's rustic and not perfect which is important!  And then using a photo frame with wire mesh behind to peg the photos too!  And also fairy lights, who can say no to fairy lights?
Again wire, but this time good old chicken wire with a simple white frame around the outside?  And I love how this is entirely dedicated to quotes and well words to live by!

                                                credit                                                                                           credit
I think these are pretty cool, using large photo frames to frame the space you want as your board.  The gold coloured frame I love, would love to find something similar to my room!  I also love in both photos how some of the photographs and print outs are hanging, like they're on a clothes line.  I think that is a nice little touch to make your board that little but different!

                                               credit                                                                                             credit
I love how the first image follows a cohesive colour scheme, pale colours, pastel, blues and pinks!  Looks very cute!  And I think the next image is a good idea of photographs and other drawings which are right there to spark this little idea!  There is an article from The Everygirl where this image led too and I am in love with the space Erika Brechtel has set up, little bit of envy from me!

                                                credit                                                                                         credit
And last but not least!  I love the sheer size of the board in the first image, I could go crazy if I got to work with!  Now the second image isn't really a cork board but I love the wall colour and how the photos and graphics are stuck onto the wall with brightly coloured tape!  And that lamp.  I need that lamp in my life!!

So these are just some of the amazing images I found when looking for some inspiration for my person Inspiration/Vision Board.  I want my board to be something which inspires me both in my personal life and also with university.

Do you have an Inspiration or Vision Board?  Can't wait to set my own up and show you all!

Hope you are having a wonderful time wherever you are in the world, until next time :) xx

The Book Of Love

If there is anyone who has a beautiful voice which I will never get tired of, that would be Rebecca Harkin.  She's the sister of Keith Harkin and her cover of The Book Of Love is one of my favourite songs.  It's originally performed by The Magnetic Fields and Peter Gabriel has also sung this, but I personally prefer Rebecca's cover!

Her voice sounds absolutely beautiful and Keith is singing backing vocals and their two voices combined equals four minutes and four seconds of magic.  This is definitely one song I'd love to hear live instead of listening to the videos people upload to YouTube!

The thing I love about Rebecca Harkin is she is a true talent and her voice just well it has the power to give me the tingles and not many musicians can do that!

Do you like her cover of the song?  Let me know!

I'm just going to spend the rest of my night listening to the Harkin siblings...  Good way to spend my time!

Until next time :) xx

The Struggle of Cleaning

I fail with spectacular colour when it comes to cleaning my room!  I'm the type of person who will look through EVERYTHING and ends up making more mess than what I was working with before!  Helpful I know.  And I also can't pull this excuse haha ;)

Here are a few things I've learned over the years when it comes to tidying any room!

Intentions of 2015

I've never been the type of person so set a resolution, I like to set goals and well intentions of what I want to achieve in the coming year :)

Be more creative.
If you didn't know, I am studying Interior Design at university and this is probably the only time where I will be able to go crazy with a design (within reason)!  We don't have to deal with budgets at the moment, so why not be creative while I can!  It's highly unlikely that in the future I'll ever have briefs like what we are given so I need to make the most of it and push my boundaries in design!  I always like to produce a simple design initially, making sure everything works then I go into the creative aspect of everything!

Worry less about what others think.
There is no one else exactly like me in the world.  If someone doesn't like the music I'm listening to, ok then.  If someone doesn't like the top I've picked for the day, good for them.  I am all for constructive criticism (especially at university) but when people make negative comments towards me, I need to have those comments go in one ear and out the other.  I've always worried about what people think of me, and really I shouldn't have to!  I am my own self and if people can't accept that, well that's their problem and I don't have time for that.

Say yes more.
I am quite a shy person when you first meet me and because of this shyness I am very aprehensive about opportunities that come my way.  Now when I talk about saying yes more, I don't mean being pressured into doing something, I mean saying yes to opportunities which will shape me into a better me, if that makes sense.  For example, I have a week full of music in the coming week.  In past years I've just played clarinet, last year I got to be a tutor as well as play and this year I have been asked to do a spot of conducting.  I have never conducted a band before, but there aren't exactly many opportunities where I'll be able to do conducting so why not have a go?  Sure it might be a little embarrassing if and when I do something wrong but it's all a learning experience!

More exercise and respect my body.
I've never gone on a diet before or had my own exercise routine but I want to take better care of my body!  Walking instead of catching the bus to uni, going on walks or jogging when I have spare time at uni, crack out my speedo swimsuit and hit the pool!  I can see things happening with my body and while others will be like "no you don't need to do exercise" it's more about me being confident within my own skin.

I want to also take more care with what goes into my body!  No more soft drink and chocolate drinks everyday for me!  I also want to eat more vegetables and fruit everyday!  They sure taste better (minus peas) than processed foods!

Keep clutter away.
If there was an award for a person who couldn't maintain a tidy bedroom, I would win hands down!  Mum always says "clear bedroom, clear mind" and I usually think, well I don't do a lot of my uni work in my room and only sleep in there so that will be my excuse!  But no more!  I am going to make a conscious effort to keep my room clean and tidy.  I am also really good at keeping things that I don't actually need.  I'm seeing this a lot looking through all the stuff I've got in my room...  Not good!

What are your intentions for 2015?  Has anyone broken their New Year's resolution yet?

Until next time :) xx

Overnight Oats

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  So who doesn't want to wake up and have their breakfast pretty much prepared and ready for them to eat the next morning!?!?!

I've heard about overnight oats for a while now, originally from Pauline who has a blog called Living The Healthy Choice.  It was Jack (pretty sure) from JacksGap who mentioned her on Instagram and I fell in love one with her photos and the food she photographed looked so delicious!

So last night a while before I went to bed I started to make the most simple and basic overnight oats!  Equal parts of oats and milk!  That simple!  So I used half a cup of Uncle Tobys Traditional Oats and half a cup of milk.  Then just stirred everything together and put gladwrap over the top and popped it in the fridge!  I was quite excited and so spent the rest of my night looking up recipes and flavour combinations for the overnight oats...  And I'm just going to say, I am excited to try them!

*Fast forward to this morning*

Took my little bowl/cup out of the fridge this morning and was pleased with how it looked!  I gave everything a little stir and then grabbed a banana sliced about three quarters of it up and then mashed the other quarter of it and mixed the mashed banana in with the oats and milk!

Pop the sliced banana in and drizzle (I say drizzle, but mine was more of a dollop, poor skills in the morning) some honey over the top and BAM there you have the most simple overnight oats!  I was worried I wouldn't like it, but it went down a treat!  If you're time poor you can easily just have the oats and milk with no additions to that, tastes just fine, or the night before you could add fruit or other ingredients to it and it's ready for you when you wake up the next morning!

Having oats for breakfast it one yummy and two good for you as the fiber in them fills you up for longer!  It's just gone midday (noon) here and normally by this time I would have had nibbles to eat so I'm pretty pleased!

I will definitely making this more often for breakfast and most likely will take this to uni when I have a morning lecture and class!  If you make this let me know how it turns out, or other flavour combinations I should try in the future!

Until next time :) xx

PS!! Come and say hello!!! :) x

Simple Easy Lunch!

Well hello there 2015!

When I was younger (you know and a few years ago), whenever an add for KFC or McDonalds or any fast food chain type food add popped up onto the telly, I would always without fail have a craving for the food.  Potato and gravy, nuggets, twisters, burgers, fries and chips... Yep I'd want it.  Nowadays, I see the adds and there is nothing and whenever I do eat it I always feel guilty afterwards and more often than not I'd feel sick.  Sore stomachs and other fun sick related feelings and I'd be telling myself I am never eating that again.  I rarely eat KCF or McDonalds now, one the money you pay and the food you get, it's not worth it and honestly there are so much better things I could be eating!  Now if there is a salad add on the tv or some type of healthy food, that is what I'll be craving!!

I'm on holidays from uni (still) and the hot weather finally decided to hit where I live.  From having a December which was essentially freezing for summer standards, the temperature was a hot 31 degrees Celsius and I know that's not hot hot, but for myself, that's hot!  And also my home is a sauna so fun times!  When it's really hot, you won't find me in the kitchen over a hot stove making food.  Oh no way!  Salads with cold veggies is what has been happening and it is delicious!

So a few days ago this was my lunch a few days ago!  It boring by salad standards I'll be honest, but sometimes the simple and boring foods taste the best!

Really simple as you can see!  There is no lettuce (we didn't have any in the fridge) but there is a few snow peas (the only pea I approve of haha), two button mushrooms, one tomatoes, a quarter of a cucumber, one baby carrot and two boiled egg.  I also added a little bit of salt for taste and it was delish!

Today I also had something very similar to my lunch the other day.  Was going to have a toasted cheese sandwich but opted for this instead!  Same veggies as before except there is no cucumber or boiled egg!  And I also put a little bit of dressing on it to I really want to say zing, or to add another dimension hahaha was a really nice addition and I definitely prefer it over having a little bit of mayonnaise!

When semester starts back up, I will definitely be making salads and other meals to eat when I'm at uni.  There is a microwave and fridge at uni so might as well make use of those and bring healthy foods to eat instead of getting hot chips and such from the takeaway shop over the road!

Until next time :) xx

PS!! Come and say hello!!! :) x
