Instagram Diary | March

And here we have it the last day of March for 2015...  This means I have 15 days to finish an assignment for uni, oh that fun and joy!

I find it funny, you cross the days off the calender as they pass and even though you know the month is almost up, everything feels like the year is speeding away!  Easter Break is approaching fast and I know that won't be a relaxing period even though all my tutors say for us to have a break.  They say have a break yet they give you assignments to complete and a mountain of study to do.  Ah the life of a uni student #unilyf

But with March at a close here is my Instagram Diary for March :)

~ Lusting over matte black ~ Day at the pool ~ Sibling birthday ~ Had a bit of a chop! ~
~ Buildings covered in vines ~ Matte black again but it's The Body Shop! ~ Building where my textiles class it ~ Nice view with a light bulb ~
~ Pool dreaming ~ Presenting the headpiece for textiles ~ Team Glow Stick ~ Outfit love ~
~ Sunflower love ~ Selfie for Friday ~ My best friend ~

But now I have to go and get work done for my class tomorrow.  Don't you love when tutors say what they want you to have the night before class...?  Ah such fun!

Until next time, keep smiling :) xx

PS!! Come and say hello!!! :) x

The Versatile Blogger Award

When I came back home from Relay For Life I essentially crashed and didn't check any emails or anything to do with my blog and spent my time really on YouTube, hello good way to spend my time haha but when I did decide to do something productive with my time while lying in bed, I saw that I had been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award by Eve and also Innes!  Thank you ladies, and please go and check out both their blogs if you haven't already!!

The Rules:
  1. Thank the blogger/s who nominated you and leave a link to their blog.
  2. Tell your readers 7 facts about yourself.
  3. Nominate a further 15 blogs you have recently discovered.
 7 Facts About Me:
  1. I prefer swimming laps instead of the conventional swimming my friends prefer.  I personally don't see what's so exciting about just standing in the water.  I find swimming laps relaxing and I always feel so good after a good swim!
  2. I'm not the biggest fan of guided tours.  I'd much rather walk around at my own pace.
  3. I really would love to have my own business one day which revolves around interior design.  Ever since being at uni, I've changed direction of what I initially wanted to head in (working in a firm) and now I want to be able to create my own products which people can have in their own home!
  4. I can play nearly any musical instrument I pick up, however cannot get the hang of the guitar!
  5. I rarely ever get bored of songs!  Unless I don't like the song then have fun trying to get me to listen to it without making a comment!
  6. I'd like to call myself Captain America's Australian Representative..  I think this really needs to be a position!  I also really LOVE Captain America!  Bought a males jumper just because it was a Captain America jumper, but can I just say how comfy it is!
  7. I want to design and build my dream home.  This has been a goal of mine since I was little!  I wanted to have a slide that connected all the floors haha

And here are the blogs I have recently discovered!  Please go and check them out and give them some love:

  1. All About Beauty
  2. Lily
  3. A Judge Less Life

Morning At The Market

Hello!  Happy Sunday to everyone!

This morning my parents and myself went to the markets and I remember as I little girl I would absolutely love going there!  I loved looking through all the stores, going on the train and horse rides, and also having a cheeky cup of hot chips!  The last time I had been to the markets was over a year ago with two friends and it was right bang in the middle of summer and I wasn't liking the heat haha but I do remember eating this salt and pepper calamari dish with Japanese noodles and that was quite delicious!

This time around it was much colder and I regretted not bringing my sunglasses along as even though the sun didn't bring much warmth man there was a lot of glare!  While I was in the direction that the sun was hitting I was just squinting like crazy!  I didn't take many photos either, hands were either trying to warm themselves in my vest jacket pocket or they were holding a chocolate croissant which I had.  Also chocolate croissant - talk about yummy!

It's a funny feeling to go to a market that you've been going to for most of your life and you still see the same stall holders.  You walk up the path for the main entrance and immediately to your left there is the same flower/plant stall and then you walk around more and still see the same stall holders.  There are also a bunch of new ones there now but very nostalgic seeing some of the old ones still going strong after many, many years!

I'll be honest, I do love me some flowers and plants.  They look gorgeous and smell just as good but the downside of them for me are the bees and wasps!  I have never seen so many of the buggers!  First at Relay For Life and now at the market!  I'm terrible with them and it's hard for me to just stand there and try to be cool, calm and collected.  I freaked when a leaf fell on mums arm and I thought it was a wasp....  Awkward for me, however people standing near us got a good snicker out of it.  Just lovely!

I'm looking forward to going back to the market next weekend!  There was so much fresh produce and vegetable and I'd much rather support local and help out the local farmers!  With the colder months here (well and truly here haha) I'm looking forward to having soups and all those delicious foods which just warm you up inside!

What is your favourite part of local markets?  I just love them!

Until next time, keep smiling :) xx

Relay For Life 2015

This one time I went to a sports ground.  I stayed there for 24 hours.  Walked quite a bit.  Met some amazing people.  All to raise funds for the research which is done by the Cancer Council.  I went to Relay For Life 2015.

When I got to the venue I was immediately shocked with how many tents there were.  The event has definitely grown since that last time.  And when I got out of the car I was also greeted by some lovely bees and wasps.  That wasn't fun haha

It took a while to find my teams campsite.  Quite awkward because I didn't know anyone in my team bar form one girl who wouldn't be there for another couple of hours!  I'd been to the help station and was told my campsite was no. 1 so went to try and find the site which was meant to be opposite from where I was standing.  Nope there was no campsite no. 1 to be found so back to the help station I went and asked another person!  Long story short my teams campsite was no. 94 (nowhere near the no. 1 haha) and when I finally found it, I was honestly surprised.  I was expecting maybe a tent and a few chairs to be there.  Oh no, we had a gazebo, with some windbreaks, a small open tent near the front and a larger tent out the back, bunch of camping chairs, there was a heater type thing and there was food and drink.  Lots and lots of food and drink.  I was worried that I wouldn't have enough money to get food and water for the time I was there but I didn't have to worry anymore!

It was in my moment of surprise at seeing the campsite that I met some of the people on the team!  I was the only girl apart from the team leader but the guys were great and we had many, many laughs while walking around the track!  I had fronted up wearing my Captain America jumper instead of the Relay For Life jumpers we'd been given because I thought it was going to be quite cold.  No.  Was well hot and Captain America was put back in my bag!

I walked for four hours on and off at the start and it was during this time that I developed some blisters on my feet and also got sun/heat stroke.  I don't do too well with heat and this kind of put a stop to me walking for a while.  I had a nap for about half an hour and was woken up by Natalie when she arrived!  We sat in the tent talking for a bit as I wasn't too keen on standing or moving.

We did some walking, gave snacks out to some of the other teams, danced to McBusted, had a little sausage sizzle, did some more walking, swerved countless times to avoid bees and wasps and slowly but surely I could feel my feet hurting more and more..  Thinking back on it now, I really should have stopped walking, wasn't doing myself any good!

Fast forward a few hours and after a moving ceremony my team, which had changed a little bit due to more people coming in and some leaving, realised there were glow sticks...  Now we are all university students, who are mature and representing the University of Tasmania, we are responsible and act our age.  But there were glow sticks so we couldn't just leave them in the packet.  That would just be a terrible waste of glow sticks.

Natalie and myself looking so stylish it is not funny!  I had these little clip on glow stick earrings and it felt weird to have them there as I don't have my ears pierced haha!

Some of the most brilliant people!

As you can see, responsible university students who accessorize with an array of glow sticks.  We may or may not have gotten some interesting looks from the other teams, we assumed they were simple jealous...  Our team leader also couldn't look at us seriously haha

During this time our team had a massive energy boost and I found myself walking for another two hours and the pain in my legs and the blisters on my feet weren't really an issue.  It was probably now when I had the most fun.  I'd never met any of the people in my team (apart from Natalie) but everyone was so nice and the amount of laughter that came from our campsite from brilliant!

Now I love food and pizza is one of my food loves.  So you can imagine my face when at least 20 boxes of pizza arrived at our campsite.  20.  Boxes.  Of.  Pizza.  I have never seen so much pizza in my life!  I think the pizza I had was a three cheese pizza and it was delicious!!  #ILovePizza

It was after the pizza and a few more laps where I crashed.  The blisters and leg pain came back with a mighty force and walking soon became something that I found very hard to do.  I was scheduled to walk with Natalie from 1-2am and then from 6-7am so Natalie and I said goodnight to everyone and decided to have some shut eye.  We'd both set alarms and I was so worried that when the alarms went off I wouldn't be able to move to do my laps.  Basically what happened was Natalie did the two shifts while I was dead to the world.  She turned off my alarms so I wouldn't be disturbed as well haha!  I only got about 3 hours of solid sleep and the rest of the time I was there not really being able to move.  Every time I went to roll over, oh my goodness, the pain.  But far out Natalie, I owe you big time!

I can't remember exactly when I got up to get out of the tent, but everyone looked so tired and I felt so bad that I hadn't been able to help during the morning hours.  No one minded and I was constantly told to stop apologizing and to drink my tea and eat my breakfast which had been supplied by Hungry Jacks.  While we were having breakfast, one of the guys in the team told me that a girl had been over to our campsite and asked my team to tell me that I was slacking and wasn't working hard enough.  To say I was angry was an understatement and for the remainder of the relay every time that particular team walked past I had to put up with the "I'VE ONLY HAD AN HOURS SLEEP!" "GET UP AND WALK" "STOP SLACKING".  I ranted to mum when I was talking to her and just to shut the people up ended up doing more laps.  Hello big mistake.

What really got me is Relay For Life isn't about how many laps you've done, or how much sleep you've had.  It isn't a competition and this team clearly forgot about that.  This really put a dampener on the event for me :(

However apart from this was probably the best 24 hour period I've had in a long time.  I met some amazing people, walked I don't know how many laps and kilometres, and really had a blast!  I'd do it again next year, easily.  Except this time, I'll prepare myself for the walking and also buy a good pair of shoes for walking!

There were also bagpipe players!  Natalie and myself nearly got run over by them at one stage hahaha :P

Until next time, keep smiling :) xx

Some Of My Favourite Instagram Accounts

There isn't a day that I don't go on Instagram.  I love posting photos, I love finding new people to follow and I also love the people you meet (in a sense) thanks to Instagram!  There are so many accounts which I absolutely love and I thought I'd share a few of them with you today :)

designseeds - I can't remember how I found this, but I just love how the predominant colours are drawn out of each photograph!  I used this as inspiration for data collection for a headpiece I made for my textiles class in uni :)

schadeshop - I'll be honest, this is essentially my ideal home style in an Instagram account.  It's clean and simple and just oh so lovely!  I just love white interiors and how crisp and fresh they are!  The photos make me want to travel so badly as well and discover new interiors across the world!

sophie_vine - Sophie was a contestant on a tv show called The Block (one of my fave shows) and her feed is just so lovely!  She's also a new mum to little little Van and can I just say cute baby alert!  I love seeing how she has styled her home as well as bubs room, I have a strong case of room jealousy!

mwestonart - Another account I found thanks to The Block.  When I first saw hew works I no kidding was speechless.  Easily one of the most stunning pieces of artwork I have ever seen.  The colours are amazing and each piece is just unique and simply stunning!

harrypotterfilm - I'm sorry I had to include this.  I love Harry Potter.  #Always.  And there is nothing better than scrolling through your feed and something about your favourite book and movie series pops up!  I'm still waiting for my Hogwarts letter by the way.......

And there we have it!  Just some of my favourite accounts on Instagram!  If you want to check any of the out, I'll leave links to their accounts by their name and you can see for yourself why I love them!  And I may or may not be looking through the Harry Potter account as we speak....

Until next time, keep smiling :) xx

March & Relay For Life 2015

The month of March brings with it a few interesting events!  We have some birthdays, a few deadlines for university and also an event called Relay For Life.

Relay For Life is an event where communities around Australia recognise and celebrate people who have overcome cancer or are currently going through treatment, and also the people who have helped care for them.  The event also remembers those who have lost their life due to cancer.  While fundraising is an ongoing and yearly process, teams gather at a location (usually a sports ground) and participate in a relay where they'd walk or run around a track.  The event is held overnight and usually runs for 24 hours and is a good opportunity to meet others at the event and enjoy the activities which are on offer at the relay.

I've done the Relay once before and was one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done.  I was in high school walking with my high school team and I'm glad that I'm doing it again this year.  It will be a bit chilly but nothing that can't be solved with a jumper, snow jacket (definitely not forgetting that) and some explorer socks!  I had about 2 hours sleep while I was there but it probably was one of the only times that I didn't complain that I was tired.  If you think about it, there are so many others who are in a worse situation than you and 2 hours sleep is something to be extremely grateful of.

If you want and if you can (and I mean this truly), I'll leave a link to my little page on the Relay For Life website here if you wish to donate.  If you can donate that would be amazing and really appreciated but if you can't that's not a problem!  Just send your good luck vibes for me when I'm doing the relay!

You can also check out the Relay For Life Website here to have a look around and see whats happening :)

Thank you for reading :)

Until next time, keep smiling :) xx

New Hair - Do Care!!

Snip snip snip!  To put it simply - I got my hair cut!

I had posted a photo on Instagram a little while ago of a really nice looking fishtail braid and had said that I wouldn't cut my hair because of my hair goals.  But for a week or so I've been wanting a change with both the length of my hair and it's colour.

I've got quite thick hair and my hair was getting quite long meaning there was a lot of hair!  My hairdresser always comments on how much hair I've got each time I go there haha!  And with all that thick hair sometimes it is a pain to work with every morning and I usually would put it in a bun, a low pony or let it do its own thing.  The ends of my hair also felt terrible so I wanted those sorted out!

I had also coloured my hair in 2014 at the start of May and the colours you know had gone past their prime and in some cases didn't look too attractive!  My natural hair colour was coming through and I had these little golden coloured flecks showing up and then you'd look down my hair and there was the (in my eyes) not so good looking now ombre hair so I decided I wanted to go back to being a brunette :)

I had just under 3 inches cut off so a good 10cm!  And WOW does my hair feel good!  I also had a chocolate brown put through, although I can't remember whether it was a rinse or a dye.  The colour is a little darker than I expected it to be but that all comes down to light haha when I got home I was rotating on the spot with the front facing camera on seeing what it looked like with different light haha either way I love the colour and love being a brunette again!  With the colder months approaching here, I personally think this colour will be perfect for winter!

I can still put my hair up in a little bun on the top of my head (currently rocking that hehe) and also can do a high pony although not too keen on how it looks haha so I do believe I'll be wearing my hair down and either letting it do it's natural thing or have it straightened or wavy! :)

I really love how my hair looks and I loved getting a little chop!  Change is good and I'm glad I did this!  Let me know what you think :) x

Until next time, keep smiling :) xx

Natural Fashion - Textiles: 3D Techniques

Everyone looks forward to Friday because it means the end of the week and here and the weekend is only hours away.  I personally like Friday's because of the class I've got on that day!

This time last year I enrolled in a unit called Experimental Textiles and I enjoyed it so much that instead of enrolling in a unit which falls under the category of architecture and design I opted for another textiles unit!  And just like last year Textiles:  3D Techniques is nothing like I was expecting it to be.  So I thought I would share what we got up to in our first class!

I'd also like to point out that I am not an expert in sewing or making items of clothing and this is all completely new to me!

We've been given our first assessment piece and have to produce a headpiece/headdress/hoodmask/neckpiece which translates gathered information into a physical form.  Bit of a mouth full and I'm still thinking about how I will go about this.  We had a little lecture on different headpieces and the like which can be seen across tribal cultures and also within the fashion industry and after we went back to the textiles area where were had to pick some images of tribal headpieces and create our own piece based on what we found to be inspiring from the images which we had selected.

These were the images I selected.  Also made an early start with my journal work - keeping on top of everything this year and not letting myself fall behind!

When I saw we had paper to work with I thought of making a series of cones and attempt to make inverted cone of sorts.  I had a vision in my head of how I was hoping it would turn out and well it kind of did and it kind of didn't haha!

My teacher said it worked out very well and could see the direction I had explained to her previously and we talked about how I could further develop this design.  I think using differing sized cones would add to it.  Larger cones being placed around the edge of the piece and smaller ones filling up the centre to create depth.  I'd like to see how a textile material would go being moulded into a cone or seeing how pieces of fabric would go and using them as additions to the supports of the headpiece or as little additions for the interior of some of the cones.

My friend Natalie who is also in the class created a headpiece and we tested it out on my head to see that it could be worn by a human!   I feel that I look a little but like the Statue of Liberty?  Thoughts?

I absolutely love the building where we get to study!  Instead of being in the School of Architecture I'm less than a minute away over in the School of Visual and Performing Arts.  I think I'm really lucky where I get to study as we're not in conventional classrooms and instead in an old railway yard building :) I just love looking up and seeing old pieces of machinery and the original features of the space.

Let me know of your thoughts of what I made?  Would you have gone in a different direction with the images I chose?

Until next time, keep smiling :) xx

PS!! Come and say hello!!! :) x

Instagram Diary | February

And it's that time of the month.... For my Instagram Diary!

I don't know whether it's just me but does any ever look back at their old photos and have a little cringe?  I will be the first to admit that I am a frequent user of Instagram and some of the stuff I posted I seriously wish I could go back and tell myself "really Emma?  You want to post that?" So for a while I've been deleting quite a few photos!

~ #BEABIGSISTER ~ Hair goals ~ Lazy afternoons on the couch ~ Ellie Goulding Love Me Like You Do ~
~ Insert caption for a selfie ~ How to annoy the fam with a recorder ~ Colourful terrace homes ~ Obsessing over flowers ~
~ Yes please ~ Trying to escape the sauna which is my home ~ The 'friendly' cat ~ Home from my first day back at uni ~
~ The headpiece I made in textiles ~

Recently I've seen a lot of posts and videos on Instagram about how to gain followers or how it's vital for the success of your Instagram account that you have a theme...  I honestly don't understand why people get so hooked up on how many followers they have or how many likes they get on a photo.  The amount of likes on a photo doesn't determine it's quality.  If that makes sense?  Be happy with the content and quality of what you're posting and not whether you've got likes or comments!

If you want you can check my account here @emmadaisy___ :)

Until next time, keep smiling :) xx
