Easy 4 Ingredient Lunch!!

For a few days of the week I am at home and not at university and no one wants to have toast or two minute noodles for lunch all the time!  Ages ago I would be perfectly happy to eat foods like this but more recently I've wanted something which is more substantial and also more tasty!

I'm not the type of person who loves fancy meals (probably because I can't cook them hahaha) and love to eat something which is simple and easy to prepare and cook!  What I made for lunch is definitely simple and easy to make and there are only 4 main ingredients!

One boiled egg, tomato, mushrooms and some couscous and there you have my lunch!  All day I had been thinking of making a couscous salad, it's something I want to make for a while but ended up with this!

In a little pot I put in a drizzle of olive oil and some salt and then half a cup of couscous.  Next I stirred this together and then put in half a cup of boiling water, gave it another little mix and popped the lid on and wrapped the pot with a tea towel.  In a small saucepan I cooked one egg, kindly given to use from our chooks!  I let the water come to the boil, let the bubbles reduce and then let that cook for about 5 minutes.  And in a pan I used a little bit of olive oil and simply cooked off a tomato and mushrooms which I had previously cut up.

When the couscous was done, I put in a little bit of butter and fluffed it up with a fork and it was ready to eat!  Once the egg shell had been removed, everything was then put into a bowl and photos were taken haha

I can't remember how long it took to prepare and cook but it wasn't that long and high skill levels aren't required which is perfect for me!  When I got to eating it I loved it!  I love tomatoes and mushrooms (two of my favourite foods) and won't say no to couscous or eggs so this was a great lunch for me!

Let me know what you've been loving to have for lunch!!

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

25 Random Facts About Me!

I'm just going to jump right into this one.  I present you with 25 random facts about me!

1.  I am right handed but I wish I was ambidextrous!  I can write with my left hand but it looks like the writing of a 2 year old!  But I will always open jars ad that with my left hand..

2.  I can run on very little sleep.  When it get to the end of semester and you've got final assignments to hand it, sleep slips down from my list of priorities.  I know it's not the best thing to do but I'll usually average maybe a maximum of five hours sleep and that's pushing it.

3.  I like chocolate but wouldn't be angry if someone told me I wasn't allowed to eat it anymore.  Like I love chocolate but if I was given the choice of eating a banana, sweet potato, watermelon or something I wouldn't pick the chocolate.  I've never really liked white chocolate and dairy milk chocolate does nothing for me unless it's Lindt chocolate!  Dark chocolate is my favourite chocolate!

4.  I hardly ever get bored of songs.  I can still play songs I'd listen to when I was in high school and it wouldn't annoy me!  Yes, if I didn't like a song then I'd press skip though haha

5.  I've been playing the clarinet for 12 years.  It's probably one of the best things I've ever done!  I've met some amazing people and have had some amazing opportunities come from music!  I play in a band (Symphonic Band, sounds soooo cool) and am the lead clarinet and kind of second in charge after the conductor!  Took me eight years to get there and I'm super chuffed about it!

6.  I LOVE Harry Potter.  I am a Harry Potter girl through and through.  I will read the books over and over again and have watched the movies so many times!  Friends have said I need to 'grow up' and get out of the 'phase' but I can say that won't happen.  I grew up reading the books on my own and with my family and it's been such a massive part of life for me so I'm sorry friends but my love for Harry Potter isn't going anywhere!

7. I don't wear heels.  I'm already tall so don't need to be taller haha

8.  I sometimes wish I was doing a music degree.  I've done music units on the side but always in the back of my mind I wonder whether I should have done music courses at college and then gone and enrolled in a music degree...?  I might do one later in life haha I'm not sure yet!

9.  I love the outdoors but I'm not a fan of bees and bugs and things that want to bite you!  Bees and me are not a match made in heaven.  I'm sometimes skittish when I'm outside, that might be the best word to use haha not the biggest fan of bugs and creepy crawlies!

10.  When I watch cooking shows and when they are cutting up meat, I can't watch it.  I could easily never eat meat again sometimes.  They say to respect the meat but then they go ahead and hack it up and I'm like nope nope nope.

11.  Not a fan of animal documentaries.  I don't go very well when animals die or when a lion goes and bites a hunk of leg off a zebra or something.  I just can't stomach it!  I also would be a terrible person if I had to be in the film crew because I'd be the person who would run in and save the baby bird who is dying of starvation because it's the smallest and it's bird siblings don't want to be nice and share the food equally.

12.  I drink warm drinks way to fast!  I'll make a hot chocolate or cup of tea but I will finish the drink in under five minutes.  And then my drink is gone and I've got nothing to drink!  I need to slow up haha and I also prefer these $2 coffees they have at uni hahaha

13.  Since doing art subjects at uni, I have a greater understanding and appreciation for art.  I'm still not a fan of doing guided tours of art galleries or guided tours full stop but I can walk through a gallery or museum and just appreciate the art more and understand their intent for the piece better!

14.  14 is my favourite number.  Probably has something to do with it being my birth date but generally I think it's a sweet number!  Rolls off the tongue nicely!

15.  I have no problem with people being vegetarian or following a certain religion but the moment they push their beliefs onto my I'll get annoyed.  I'm all for listening to a person explain stuff about why they don't eat meat or bits of their religion but when they just try to sell it to me and then make me feel bad for having bacon I find that really unfair and uncalled for.  We all have our personal choices that we choose to make and if my lifestyles choices aren't the same as yours, understand that it is fine because I am me and we are all different!

16.  I 'fall in love' quite easily.  With celebrities and characters and all that but actual people people, like potential partners - not so much haha for example Loki, Tom Hiddleston, Captain America, Draco Malfoy, Gilbert Bythe, Niall Horan.....  Yep I will fall in love with people who don't exist or people who I'll never meet ahah

17.  I've got an account on Pottermore and I got sorted into Slytherin!  When I read the books I either wanted to be in Ravenclaw or Slytherin...  Yep weird choice I've been told, wanting to be in Slytherin.  They're not all bad haha #SyltherinProud ;)

18.  I've never wanted to paint my room pink as a child.  I've never been the girl who has everything in pink.  I remember asking if my bedroom walls could be painted this yellow colour though ahaha that would have looking interesting!

19.  I get very nervous when I have to present or do a performance.  I've got wonderful vibrato when I'm nervous and playing clarinet haha it's so bad when I'm doing a presentation at uni because one my voice goes, two I rush through everything and ruin the presentation and three sometimes I'll make myself sick and no one wants that!  I'm learning to embrace my nerves so I'm getting there haha

20.  I LOVE the rain!  As I'm typing I'm at uni and it's currently pouring with rain!  (I might pop a photo in - future Emma, hope there is a photo haha).  I've never been the type of girl who gets bothered if her hair gets wet and I was the child who when it started pouring would just go outside and run in the rain

21.  I wanted to be an Olympic swimmer.  I was taught how to swim when I was in kindergarten and stopped swimming training the week before the inter-high swimming carnival when I was sixteen years old.  I would swim once a week and really enjoyed it!  I was a social swimmer haha but when it came down to carnivals at high school I was very serious about it!

22.  I feel most comfortable in minimal makeup.  What I have on my face whenever I leave the house I like to call my 'facially naked' look.  A BB Cream, some concealer, setting powder, mascara and maybe something on the lips.  I don't do an eye look with eyeliner and I don't fill in my brows.  A lot of people say that I would look so much better if I did but right now, it's just not me.

23.  My first dream car was a monster truck.  I remember seeing one and thought THAT IS A COOL CAR I WANT IT!  It was purple and green and towered over everything and I thought it was awesome haha a Mini though is now my green car.  After I realised the logistics of having a monster truck in a town wouldn't really work and I'd probably destroy a few things I've had my heart set on owning a Mini!  Even before they were cool, and now everyone wants one and I'm like get in line I was here first hahaha

24.  I didn't realise how many facts I had to list!

25.  I wish cats and dogs stayed little!  I love kittens and puppies then cats and dogs respectively but with an incident that occurred when I was younger I'm hesitant around animals especially dogs.  I'd love a West Highland White, if my family ever got a dog we'd get one of these :)

I'm trying to teach myself how to use InDesign at the moment.  And there is a storm going on outside and I have headphones on with music playing and I can't hear it it's that loud outside!  Mother nature is a force to be reckoned with!

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

My First Week Back At Uni!

I was hoping that this semester would start with no worries, no problems and that everything would go smoothly and as planned.  That all my units would be fine and there would be no technical difficulties....  Is that asking too much??  Sadly a lot didn't go to plan and oh it wasn't a smooth week!

I already knew my week would be busy.  One, my classes for uni were starting again and I also had music rehearsals towards the end of the week.  And instead of only going to the afternoon rehearsals I would be going all day and helping out with the younger kids.

My Monday class went as I excepted it too.  We did the stereotypical 'get to know you' games all of which I have had to do every year for every unit since I've been at uni!  They're good when you don't actually know anyone but when you're with the same group of people again and again I think a different set of ice breaker questions are in order!  I did however get to promote my blog haha one of the questions was whether anyone had a blog and there was only one other girl on the class other than me who had a blog!

I did have a problem with MyLO, the online learning system UTAS uses..  None of my units were showing up, even though I was enrolled.  But after a phone call to the computer tech people, and me realising that I needed to click 'student' instead of 'all roles' my units were there and I could print out documents and get started!  Being organised right from the start isn't going to hurt and it will all be worth it!

On Wednesday, I had music with the younger kids and we all froze while we waited for the doors to be unlocked!  I feel incredibly old around the kids but it's a lot of fun to tutor them and help them with they're playing.  Even though they do tend to get side tracked often and I find myself thinking how glad I am that I never went and studied to be a teacher!

I left music early because I wanted to get to uni well before my class started.  I didn't quite know where the classroom was and didn't want to be the person who was late to class because she was lost!  The hours after I got to uni that afternoon were some of the most stressful!  I thought my class started at 1pm...  No one turned up when 1pm rolled around so I checked my timetable - oh look at that the class starts at 2pm!  So I waited an hour and did some work for my furniture unit and coloured in a drawing I had been working on.

2pm came and only one other person had walked into the classroom and I was thinking what on earth is happening??  I double checked with a lady that this was in fact the right classroom, and after more waiting another girl walked in and she was also meant to be in the same class as me.  We soon found out that the class wasn't running anymore; that not enough people had signed up for it.  Apparently an email had gone out but I never got one and now I'm sitting there freaking out because I needed to find another advanced elective!

I have to honestly thank the lady that was in the classroom at the time - she was so helpful and could see I was about to have a ah lets say moment haha she'd given me a timetable of all the units that were happening that week and another sheet of paper which listed every unit available!  I could have hugged her!

What worried me the most was that it was already Wednesday and I had missed out on three possible days to be in class.  There was a class on Thursday afternoon which would have been similar to the class I had been enrolled in but it annoyingly clashed with another unit so that was out of the picture.  I ended up deciding to try a class called The Printed Image and would try and enrol in that when I got home and just rock up to the class on Friday morning and explain to the teacher my situation.

Well.  You'd thinking un-enroling and then enrolling in a unit would be a piece of cake...?  I still have no clue how to work the system so sent a frantic email to a lady asking for her help!  Fast forward to Thursday morning and I was enrolled and spent the rest of my day at music!

On Friday morning, I walked from town to uni.  I could have caught the bus but I'm trying to be healthy so I walked!  My toes were numb and I couldn't feel my nose it was that cold!!  And when I went to warm up my hands I fogged up my sunglasses!

My class though was brilliant!  I think I'll do a separate post on what we actually did but I think it's a blessing in disguise that my other class got cancelled!  My teacher is awesome - he actually took me for photography for a while when I was in college so I am extremely happy to have him as a teacher again!  There is also less than ten students in the class as well!  I personally really love this because you're able to spend more time with the teacher and get a better understanding of what you're meant to do in the class!

I am honestly so excited for the rest of this semester and I don't think I've ever been this excited for uni!  If there is a lack of posts I do truly apologise and will upload one when I can!

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

Dabbling With Watercolour

The end of holidays are nearing and I've decided in the past few days that now is the best time to whip out my watercolour stuff.  You know I've had weeks and weeks of holidays that I could have done this, but why not start when semester is literally days away?  Seriously Emma I do not understand why your brain decided to do this.

Either way, I've been wanting to do some little watercolours for a while to pop up in my room and I have been dabbling away at what to do and thought I would share what I've come up with!

I am a massive fan on emojis so why not try and re-create some of my favourites!

In my head the green heart would have turned out better haha it could have been worse!  My favourites of these would have to be the happy poo, elephant and the whale!  I think they're so cute and love how they turned out!

I am hopeless at doing scenes with watercolour so ended up getting the different shades of blue and just putting them wherever in a circle I had traced.  I wasn't intending on making anything specific but popped some yellow in and it ended up being some sort of view of the sea.  An interesting view of the sea haha!  Hashtag I am not an artist!  Everywhere on the internet I see people doing "bursts" with watercolours and I've always thought these looked amazing!  The triangle was my attempt and I actually quite like it!  I'd drawn the triangle and the curved lines before hand not really knowing what I wanted to do haha

What I've loved most about dabbling with watercolour is that it's given me so many ideas of what else I want to do!  I'm not the most talented person when it comes to art and it would be so much easier to go out and buy some artwork but there is something just so satisfying about making something yourself!  I know what I want to make and I'm in the process of sketching up ideas and I'm liking how it's coming along!  I think all of the little sketches I've done will probably go up on my walls as well or somewhere in my room, because I do kind of love them haha

I am so sorry for the lack of posts!  If there is such a thing as a 22 year old life crisis I think I've been having it lately!  Goodness sometimes I wish I was a little kid again!

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

My Favourite Woodfired Pizza

Apparently each year over 5 billion pizzas are sold over the world.

I can't even start to imagine 5 billion pizzas but I am now feeling quite hungry thinking about it!  Myself, like so many others in the world, am a great lover of pizza and I especially adore wood fired pizza!  It's not something I get to have all the time and it's been a few years since I've had this particular pizza and I was quite excited we got to have some today!

We went to JJ's Bakery & Old Mill Cafe in Longford and it was so nice to get out of the house and do something enjoyable (like eat pizza)!  We had originally planned on doing this last week but sickness struck and our plans got halted :( luckily now we are all cold and sickness free!

Only one pizza was ordered and we all got hot chocolates because you really can't go wrong with a good hot chocolate haha the pizza we picked was the Plantation one :)  it had premium ham, mixed peppers, crispy bacon and pineapple and was topped with thinly cut sweet potato which was delicious!  We split the pizza between the three of us and it was just the right amount!

The cafe/bakery is in an old mill and I absolutely love the atmosphere :)  there was also a cat that sat outside by the side door near where we were sitting and I kept joking that it was actually a witch or wizard in animagus form... We'll never know ;)

I loved the pizza oven and it was awesome to see your meal being prepared and made!  I also loved the table haha it was a dark stained timber one but it wasn't smooth and had so much character and was perfect for the place!

I've been eating at JJ's Bakery since I was little and it's hardly changed which I love and the food still tastes amazing!  Can't wait to come back and have lunch here another day!

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

8 Photos of Happiness

There are so many tag posts that go around the web and this has to be one of my favourite that I've ever come across!  The gorgeous Ellie from Pinkie Prim nominated me to do the 8 Photos of Happiness tag and it has probably been one of my most favourite posts to complete so thank you so much Ellie for nominating me for this!

Also to the creator of this tag, Ariel, this tag is brilliant.  Utterly brilliant and thank you so much for spreading a little more happiness around the internet :)

I had to include music somewhere in this!  This was a piece I had to play last year for a set of competitions and the piece had I think four movements in it.  The third movement Dance which is on top was my favourite out of all of them :) learning to play the clarinet was easily one of the best things I have ever done!

If there is one thing that will make me happy, it's the view from my bedroom window :) I don't live in the city and so looking out onto land and grass and trees and having an interrupted view of the sky is amazing!  No matter the weather, it's a beautiful view :)

From a young age I've always loved swimming and being near the water brings be happiness!  Even walking around the pool like I was the day I took this, had a constant smile on my face!  There is something about being in the water which calms me, swimming laps up and down a pool is just so relaxing for me!

When I was looking through photos, when I came across this one I instantly had a feeling of happiness due to a memory formed with the photo.  I'm pretty sure I had struck gold with an assignment and turned to look out the window and this is what my eyes saw.  I've got more photos of how the sky changed and it's simply stunning!

You know those places where you went as a child and it brought you happiness and even now as an adult you can go back there and you still have that childlike happiness?  This is one of those places for me.  It's at the lakes in the middle of Tasmania and I've been here many times throughout my life :) some bits have changed but there are other parts of the lakes which are exactly how I remember it as a little girl.

If you've read my blog for a while you probably would have read about my love hate relationship with university.  This is a photo of the ground floor studio and although this building has provided me with some tough times, the positive memories I've got from this place easily outweighs everything!

Walking.  This was a 'winter' day not that long ago - felt like summer!  I love going for walks, whether it's on my own or with people.  It's a great way for me to clear my mind and just enjoy life!  You see so much more when you're walking :)

And last but not least, watercolours :)  I would always do these when I was little and gradually got back into it when I needed to do perspectives for assignments at uni!  I have a little book with little things I've done, and by no means am I an artist haha but I love it either way :)

Thank you again Ellie for nominating me :)  I would like to nominate Lou's World, Nicole,
Marianne, World Wide Valery and Antonella :) also if anyone else wants to do this tag go for it!!!

What you need to do:

Thank your nominator/s and link them in the post
Link the creator (Ariel's Little Corner of the Internet)
Post your 8 photos of happiness (he photos can be anything that represents a moment, object, place or feeling that makes you happy)
Pop in a brief description of the photo, why you chose it or let the photos do the talking!
Spread the happiness and tag up to ten other bloggers!

Spread some happiness around the internet!  :) xx

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

A Touch of Frost - July

I was going to start this post by saying HAPPY HUMP MONTH but thought people might not understand and think I'm talking about something meant for older audiences.....  You know how Wednesday is Hump Day?  Well July is I guess Hump Month, we're past the halfway mark for 2015!  And I'm still writing 2014, you would think after six months I'd be used to typing 2015?! Apparently not!

I am still patiently waiting for now to arrive where I live.  Parts of Tassie have already had some snow (even when it wasn't winter) so I'm pretty sure it's my turn now!  I was outside early one (I was getting my hair cut, not just randomly outside early hahah) and fell in love again with the garden around my home.  I am so grateful for where I live and it was like a frosty wonderland, with some sunshine!

I really wanted to run across the grass but I was wearing a pair of Converse and didn't feel like having damp footwear!  I'm looking forward to July!  And I will be forever keeping my fingers crossed that it will snow!!!

Also, not sure whether you would have noticed but my template/layout/theme whatever you'd like to call it is finally complete!  I've added in some social media icon buttons and was so chuffed when I figured out how to get them to work!  I'm not the most talented person when it comes to technology and coding so it has been an interesting journey to get my blog layout to where it is now!  I can say this now, it won't be changing anytime soon haha I like it too much!!

So if you're ever bored you can always go and click one of those items and follow me ;)

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx
