Instagram Diary | August

I swear this month has gone by so quickly!  I've been so busy with music and uni and it's now the end of August and Spring is essentially hours away - where is all the time going?!?!?  I was in class on Monday and we were talking about assignments and one of the girls said that we've got 6 weeks of semester left.  6 weeks.  What scares us the most is the amount of work we have to get done in those weeks.  Oh my goodness.

August has been a pretty good month I'd have to say.  Within the last few days of August I've made a conscious decision with my health and what I want personally with my health and I am so looking forward to the rest of the year!  I'll most likely do a post on whats going to be happening so keep your eyes peeled for that!

Here is my Instagram Diary for August :)

~ Hashtag my balls are on display ~ All of the plants ~ Silk screen printing ~

~ Lady tradie ~ Glass house/shed love ~ Orange infused water ~

~ Plywood grain carvings ~ What's in my fridge ~ Coffee and assignments ~

Such a busy month for me on Instagram hahaha :P

Infused Water!!

I can say for sure that I don't drink enough water and sometimes it gets quite boring having to drink straight water.  I think it's easy to say that infused water is very much 'in' and I've only just joined the party but I am LOVING it!

I've stopped drinking soft drinks cold turkey (63 days and counting, go me!) and am turning a corner with my health and these infused waters are a great addition!  Not only do they look super nice but they also taste delicious and they're good for you!

There are so many recipes that you can try out and they are so simple to do!  All you need is a cup/jar/anything which can hold the fruit/s of your choice, and some water!  Just slice up what you want and pop them in the water!  It's that simple!  You can add ice and also I've found leaving them for a while and not drinking them straight away allows everything to infuse - worth the wait trust me!

Some of the combos I've tried so far are:

orange + water
kiwi fruit + water
pineapple + water
kiwi fruit + strawberry + water

There are SOOOOO many other combinations you can try out and I am so keen to try out more of them!  I love sipping on these throughout the day and I'll eat the fruit afterwards as well :)

If you've tried infused water let me know what you think and if you have any favourite flavour combos let me know!

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

LUSH Tisty Tosty Bath Bomb!

Earlier this year in May I turned 22 and one of the presents I received was a LUSH Bath Bomb!  There isn't a LUSH shop in my city and the closest one is around two hours away so I was so excited when I opened the little parcel and saw that there was a LUSH product in there!  *I may have screamed when I saw the packaging.....*

So I got the Tisty Tosty Bath Bomb and it smelt amazing!  I'm not the type of person to have baths that often and my friend said it smelt nice so I could pop it on my desk and I could work with a pretty floral smell around me!  I did this for quite some time but felt like I was wasting it so decided to take the plunge and join the #LushLife !!  Seriously why didn't I do this sooner??!?!

I had seen photos of what it would look like online and was not disappointed when I opened the package!  I thought it looked really cute and loved all the little rose buds!  It smelt even more amazing out of the little paper parcel and had to show it to mum I was that excited haha

I had when I first received the bath bomb had a little look on the website to see what LUSH said about it:
Weaves a magic love spell with a scent of precious rose and orris root. The fragrant rose is surrounded with mystery and legend: it is said to have come from the Great Garden of ancient Persia; and Cleopatra is rumoured to have seduced Anthony with it. Rose perfume is said to ease tension and stress and to give people happy, positive feelings. You'll smell the real rose absolute in Tisty Tosty as soon as it hits the water. Give one away to someone you love and use one on yourself. Either way, the Tisty Tosty works its magic spell.

I was excited!  Sounded like the perfect solution for when you just want to have a relaxing bath!  I was torn between taking photos of when I put it in the bath because I didn't want to miss out on anything haha I also didn't realise how long it took to fill up our bath!  Probably why I had showers over baths!

I thought the scent intensified further and the bathroom smelt like a rose garden!  I loved it!  It was a gentle fizzle and the bomb dissolved nicely and I loved seeing the rose petals and buds floating around in the tub!  The colour of the water didn't really change but when I got in the water was so soft and milky and my skin felt amazing!  Literally so smooth!

If you want a bath bomb where you can just want to relax this one is amazing!  The smell is delicate and not too overpowering and my skin felt amazing afterwards!

What is your favourite bath bomb from LUSH?  I would do the two hour journey to go the LUSH store which is in Hobart!
Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

Polyvore Home Sets

Polyvore is one of those sites which I absolutely love!  You can create sets til your heart is content and you can produce countless dream outfits!  For me, I'm always trying to create sets of what I love - so outfits that I would wear myself or spaces which I would love to have in my future home!  Here are five of the home sets I've created recently!  :)

Talk about an ideal bedroom of mine!  This set also holds a special place in my heart as one day (story time everyone) I noticed one of the Polyvore accounts had liked the set and the next morning I woke up with a HEAP of emails!  I do a decent amount of emails daily but this was like wow what has happened!?!  Turns out my set was one of the top home sets for a specific day!  I was super chuffed!

Sometimes when I'm creating a set I'll go by a colour scheme or in this case saw the wood and then went with a colour scheme after that!  I'm not a massive fan of pink, like in your face pink but love this!  I think the colour scheme and the timbers go so well together!

Beach and calm and timber!  Some days I wish I lived near the beach and I'd try to furnish my home like this!  I've been watching so many videos of people getting their own place and it makes me want to do the same and just go crazy (within reason) and create my own little place!

This is another set that I am pretty proud of as it was also chosen as a top home set for a certain day!  I don't know how but somehow the Polyvore team loved it!  I want that desk as well!

This was inspired by an image I had seen somewhere on Pinterest I think and wanted to try and re-create it myself!  I love the colours together and am a huge fan of the bed!  Four poster beds aren't usually my thing, they sometimes look really chunky and just dominates the space, but this one looks really clean and I won't say no if sometime would offered me this bed!

If you're into fashion or interior design and love being creative I would definitely recommend popping over to Polyvore and having a look around!  If you already have an account feel free to come and say hello!  You can find my account here!

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

A Weekend In Victoria

Some of you might know that I play the clarinet and I've been playing for 12 years now.  This weekend just gone we went to Victoria to play in a competition and also perform in a concert the following day and it was a very jam-packed weekend!!

We had to be at the airport at 6am which I personally didn't mind because out of everyone going I live closest to the airport haha but in saying this I did wake up at around 4am because I knew I was going to take forever to wake up and get ready!  I also wanted more time to double check that I had packed everything...  Ended up forgetting to bring food which I later found out when we were on the bus and I wasn't too pleased hahaha

Usually on these trips we're seated alphabetically and I've got no problem with that but I was so excited when I found out I would be sitting with Jasmine, one of my clarinet buddies!  It was probably the best flight I've been on!  There was Ed Sheeran, McBusted and Little Mix listening, photo taking of the view and general flight awesomeness!

We took a bus to Melbourne where we'd drop out suitcases off and then have some time to have a look around at the Queen Victoria Market.  I've been to the market a few times now and the only thing on my mind was to get to those damn donuts!  There is this caravan and they make the most DELICIOUS donuts ever!  Move over Wendy's and Krispy Kreme - these donuts hold a special place in my heart!

We were walking back to the hotel/avoiding a person I just saw and I spotted this and fell in love!  I wish I could have seen what it looked like at nighttime - would have looked so cute!  There was another little lane way with bunting hanging over and oh it looked so nice!

I personally love walking around markets and even though a lot of the stores were repeated I had an awesome time and saw a lot of things I wanted to buy!  If I had brought a bigger suitcase things would have been a lot different!

For the time that we were at the markets, I walked with Jasmine and a girl called Kate who plays flute and it was so nice to just be with friends :) and not in the usual place where we'd always be.  Being in the music room is fun but being with my music friend and on a little "holiday" of sorts was amazing!

Can we just appreciate my failed photo attempts!!!

When our time was up at the markets, we had to re-group and pop back onto the bus and travel to Geelong where the competition would be held.  Victorian Schools Band Festival is what the competition was called and to be honest I wasn't nervous.  One, I was completely confident with the music that we were playing and also I wouldn't be sitting in my usual spot!  I normally sit on the end of the row on the left hand side of the conductor and this time one of the younger clarinet players would be sitting there so the pressure would be off me ;) hahaha

We were able to go into Geelong and have some lunch and went to Westfield and it was chaos!  We didn't know but there was this event of sorts happening and there were a lot of teenage girls around so we thought it was a band or something...  Nope just some actors from a TV show which I've never watched an episode of...  The place was packed and there was random moments of screaming which to be honest got a bit annoying after a while!  I got a vegetarian rice paper roll and did enjoy eating it!  There was mint in the roll, which tasted a bit strange but apart from that it was great!  Because I'd left my food at home, I made a quick stop at Bakers Delight and bought myself some bread and I personally thought this was a good move because I love bread and I now had something to eat!

Skipping to the competitions, they went amazingly!  We performed 3 songs and they went down a treat!  There was a live stream which was being broadcasted across the world and my family was watching from home which I loved!  They've never seen me in a music competition before and I loved that they were finally able to see one!  After you perform, one of the adjudicators would come down and we'd have a little masterclass with them and they'd go through some parts of the song.  This is my favourite part if I'm honest!

I wasn't expecting us to get our results so soon but not long after the last band performed we were all told what shield we'd receive.  You could either get a platinum, gold, silver or bronze shield and our band got a PLATINUM SHIELD!!!!!  My hands hurt so much from clapping!!

*time skip because I can*

Screenshot from the live stream :)

We came back to Geelong the next day because we had another little masterclass with a conductor from China and a few of his musicians.  Damn they were good!  After this we had the most rushed lunch and were back to perform in a concert!  Now this time round I was a little nervous, but mostly because we were being live streamed again and there was a bit more at stake and no one wants to stuff up and have that be seen by goodness knows how many people!

The venue we performed in was amazing!  The lights at the back would change colours and I didn't realise this until I was sitting in the audience!  Can you see me? ;)

Thankfully the performance went well and we could all relax and watch the other bands!  I was really looking forward to seeing the people from Melbourne uni but sadly we had to leave so we could get to the airport in time :(

I got sushi and an iced mocha for tea at the airport and there was a sad moment when Jasmine and I realised we wouldn't be sitting next to each other on the way home :( :( :( but I have to mention the flight attendants we had on the way back to Launceston...  They were amazing!  Especially Joel who looked like a Disney Prince - seriously oh my goodness!!

Even though it was such a short trip and we were exhausted by the time we got back I had an amazing time and it's made me so excited for when I'm next in Melbourne!  I've got a list of stuff I want to do, as I'll be there for longer than 2 days hahah

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

Chocolate Banana Muffins

Procrastibaking - the practice of baking something in order to put off doing something else you need to do.

I made some chocolate banana muffins a while ago when I had a day off from uni and thought it would be nice to surprise my family with some baked goods when they got home!

I am no baker so used a recipe I found on the internet!  I used a recipe from Chef In Training and absolutely loved it!  The recipe was easy to follow and produced some delicious muffins!

  • 1 1/2 cups of mashed bananas (I used 2 small to medium sized bananas)
  • 1/3 cup of oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup of flour (I used self raising flour)
  • 1/4 of cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 cup of choc chip bits
  • Preheat your oven to 180 degrees C. (350 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • In a large bowl, combine your bananas, oil and egg.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together your flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder and baking soda.
  • Add this to the banana mixture and then stir in the choc chip bits.
  • Spoon the mixture into greased or lined muffin tins.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

I noticed that my muffins sunk a little in the middle.  This could have been for a few reasons (oven temperature was too low, mixture was mixed too much etc) but I will definitely be making these again and seeing how they turn out!

The mixture made 12 muffins and they went quite quickly!  My family loved them!!  I'm getting hungry again looking at them haha need to bake some more!  Or do more baking in general!!

If you make these yourself let me know how to turn out!!

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx
