When I Never Asked For An Opinion

I honestly don't know how this post is going to sound.  Well, lets do this then!

I recently had some sizeable changes made to my hair.  I've had my hair coloured in the past, and for a while I've been growing the colour out of my hair!  Also I had been watching MasterChef (such similarities food and cooking hahah) and there was one contestants who was one of my favourites, Mimi.  I loved her cooking and I also loved her hair.  To put it simple, she had shoulder length hair and the end were light.  And I loved it.

Que Emma Googling, Pinteresting, YouTubing, searching for balayage inspiration!  I did find something that I loved but knew I'd never really be able to achieve it on my hair unless I wanted super damage hair and found others which I knew would suit me more!  So an appointment was made and I was looking forward to a change.  And did I get a change!  The style of my hair is practically the same, but it's now lighter and looking a lot more fresh!

The colour is a little different than I anticipated but I love it now!  I did get quite worried when I first saw it in the mirror but now I wouldn't change a thing!

I had a music rehearsal the day after I got it done and after people said hello the first thing they said was "your hair wasn't like that on Thursday!" and I'd explain that I had it done yesterday.  If I got a dollar for the amount of "hmmm doesn't look very natural does it?" type of comments I got, I could have bought a few things from ColourPop!  Yes, I know my hair isn't looking all that natural, not like I didn't see that when I was in the hairdressers!

And some of you may know that I have played the clarinet for quite some time now.  Even though it's been a huge portion of my life, thanks to one music teacher in high school, I have never wanted to pursue music as a career.  And this has disappointed a few people in my life, mainly those who I'm associated with through music.  I didn't want to study music at university, and didn't want to study education to become a teacher and went into design.

I have always loved design, be that architecture, interior design/architecture, furniture design, graphic design, typography, I just just everything to do with design.  When people asked what I was going to be studying at university, I got so many horrified looks.

You're wasting your talent.
You work so well with any aged kid.
My daughter adores having tutoring sessions with you.
You'd be so better suited at music/teaching.
Oh, so when you graduate from interior design you'll go down to the conservatorium of music yeah?
I still can't believe you'd want to study design over music/teaching!
Why bother studying interior design?

The most recent comment which really annoyed me was this:  Please don't tell me you're screwing your career up again?

Essentially, you didn't choose the right career paths of music or teaching and whatever path within the design industry you follow, you're screwing up your career.

This just really pissed me off, to be fully honest with you.

In a recent site visit, we went to an old people's home and were told that if we wanted a solid job to have a look into design for aged care.  I mentioned this to one of the clarinet players and another person overheard and initially they thought I said I was going to ditch interior design and work in aged care, to which I said no and explained what I had originally said.  And then I get the great comment of me screwing up my career again.

It's my future.  That's the thing.

If I could have ignored my music teacher in high school and taken music classes at college, sure probably would have gone into music at university.  But things happened and I am maybe two months away from graduating and becoming a qualified interior designer/architect.

I just never asked for an opinion on any of this.  Yes, I get people have a right to their opinion.  But do I go out and make others feel bad for the decision they've made?  No, I don't.

I just wish people would realise that them trying to make me doubt my career (or hair colour!) is really pushing me more to succeed.  I'm going to just trying and push myself more, to challenge myself and really show people what I've got.  And that no, I have not ruined my future by pursing a career that I love and adore!

I don't really know about this post.  I don't know whether to actually publish it or not either.  If you have any thoughts on this, please feel free to leave them below.

Until next time, keep smiling :)   Em xx

We Still Have...

I was scrolling through Tumblr and came across a text post which I absolutely adored.  It listed a heap of things which we still have, things which don't cost money and things which we are still able to enjoy even when the world seems like it's going a little bit crazy!

So we still have...

Sunrises and sunsets:  I love a good sunrise and sunset.  Just seeing the day start then finish is just something which I will never get enough of!  Yes, I may not be a waking up person but watching the sun make it's way up into the sky is just one of the most relaxing things to experience.  And it is the same with watching the sun go down.  Also the colours.  They are just STUNNING and honestly, look great on instagram ;)

Children's laughter:  When you hear a cute little cackle coming from a little one, seriously.  When people laugh at just anything and everything, it just brightens my day!  I remember when I was at the movies ages ago, my friends and I were some of the oldest people there (minus the parents) and the little kids just laughed at everything and it was one of the best movie experiences ever!

Love:  We still have love.  Simple as that.  We can love people, like our family, friends, celebrities, musicians, fictional characters and we can also love other things like foods, destinations, shows, anything.  Love it just something we will always have.

Music:  You don't need an iPod or CD for there to be music.  Tap your foot, hum a little tune and there you have music.  Music of any kind is something that we still have and something we will always have because music is just everywhere.  You can create music from anything, that's why I love music so much!

That gorgeous smell after it has rained:  Ok so one of my absolute favourite smells and if there is a perfume or something which is this scent, please let me know and I will love you forever!  So it hasn't rained for a while and then it rains.  Everything settles down and then in wafts this smell and I honestly wouldn't have a clue how to describe it but oh em gee, it is just incredible!  I remember one time specifically, we had this crazy intense thunderstorm and I wasn't too keen on it but once it stopped that scent from the rain just appeared and I was like yes, yes this is the best thing which has ever reached my nose!

Each other:  Whether it is family, friends, people you go to school with, people you have met online, we will have each other.  Simple as that.

And these are only a few things which we still have!  There is pizza and sweet potato, our friends and family, books and inspirational people.  We still have so much.  In a world which can sometimes seem very dark and negative, we still have so much.

So keep a look out for the little things that make our world amazing.

Until next time, keep smiling :)   Em xx

July Instagram Diary & Roundup

Hello!  It's August.  I'm late.  Very late.  I'm also so incredibly tired.

How come final semester at uni as to be so hectic?  It's crazy with how everything is at uni and it we only just started week 5!  But it's our graduating and final semester, so really what else was I expecting it to be like?  A walk in the park?  Oh if only!

I'm currently up at my desk at uni and I handed in an assignment earlier today.  I am absolutely exhausted.  Indoor air quality is pretty important but far out, some of the content isn't the most fascinating stuff!  Formaldehyde.  I have seen that word enough, and still struggle to say it right!!

And here we have Emma about to sound like a stuck record with the 100th (ish, give or take) time.  University.  Oh uni.  It's been interesting.  Everything has just stepped up a notch and it's intense.  So incredibly hectic and stressful and trying to balance everything is a mess.  I really deserve a medal of some type if I get through it all!

I just handed in my first assignment and have less than a week until I'm handing another in.  In all honesty, I should be master planning instead of writing this but one of the architect students asked me when I had an actual break.  Not sleeping, or having a shower, but an actual break.  Like watching a movie, a few episodes of a show or even reading a book which nothing to do with uni...  I didn't really have an answer for him.  I'm devoting so much time to uni and when I'm not at uni, I'm studying, or I'm at a music rehearsal and you know you've got the human functions you also need to do!

I was staying up til the wee hours of the morning, working through a report and far out I payed for it!  When I submitted the report, we had class afterwards and we're currently looking at interiors and psychology and how that has an impact on us.  I really find it interesting and was really looking forward to learning about colour and what they do.  Only problem was I was physically exhausted, had a cracker of a headache coming along and I felt like I was going to be sick.  I nearly threw up in class, was on the verge of falling asleep, and basically need to watch the video on colour again!

I was surprised I managed the car ride home without being sick!  I barely spoke to mum and didn't think I'd be able to eat tea.  I'd planned on getting home, getting into my pjs, wrapping my tea up in some foil, having a nap and eating it later.  Well I got into my pjs, but smelt the fish and chips, just chips for me and I was like nope I am HUNGRY!

And then I took the night off!  I know, I am crazy and felt a little bit guilty but I did really need a break!  I watched two episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. with my brother and at the end of the second episode I was on the verge of crashing so had an early night.  Slept for 12 hours!  I don't know if this was a good or bad idea because I just wanted to sleep more when I woke up but I did need a good sleep!

*In other news that I have recently discovered....  I WAS GOOGLING Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. AND SAW A DAMN SPOILER!  SERIOUSLY NOOOOOO!  Am I over-reacting?  Probably but NOOOOOOO*

Music has been quite interesting lately!  One of my friends composed a piece and asked myself and another clarinet playing friend to perform it at an art evening.  I'm not saying this because Claire is a friend, but oh my goodness it was such a beautiful piece!  She's such a talented human, and I absolutely loved being able to play Bird Sketches!

We also had some guest conductors come to work with us.  First, Mark Eager who I have known for six year I believe.  He's my favourite guest conductor/music person who has ever come in to work with us.  Yes that is a huge statement, but it's true.  He brings out another level of our musicianship and it's incredible!  We also got to work with Fred Allen, who I had never met before, but had played many pieces which he'd composed or arranged.  It was a surreal experience when he conducted us on a piece that he had arranged, just awesome!

I've been enjoying Instagram lately.  I don't use the new stories thing they have; I much prefer snapchat!  I do also like how my instagram looks.  Although I am waiting for someone to get annoyed with me posting another photo of the sky!  Not my fault it looks so pretty!!!

~ End of the week views ~ Sunday loveliness ~ Superhero pose is getting there ~

~ Interior inspiration searching ~ Day before semester feels ~ My favourite eupho ~

~ Beautiful morning skies ~ Procrastinating at it's finest ~ Hair changes! ~

~ Smiling but internally screaming at uni ~ Day back at college ~ Again, such a pretty sky ~

Yep another quiet month on emmadaisy..  I think that sentence is just going to be here every time I do one of these posts :/

Now, this has taken longer than I expected...  Good old writing a mini essay hahahha but back to master planning it is!

Until next time, keep smiling :)   Em xx
