In Times Of Heartache And Tragedy

There are many moments where I am lost for words and brought to tears.  However right now I’m not consumed with happiness, rather the opposite being sadness.

Growing up, I would see conflict on the tv and not understood what it meant.  Now as I’m older, it pains me to see all this conflict.  It’s not as simple as wishing people would just be kind to one and other.  That would just be too simple and easy.  Life just doesn’t work like that and accepting that is horrible but you have to do it.

We live in a world which isn’t all sunshine and daisies.  I am more and more wishing I was back being a little kid, being blissfully unaware of the heartache and tragedy that our world was experiencing.

It’s weird how days of tragedy they stick right in your mind, as clear as day.  It was pouring with rain, I’d received two really awesome bits of news but I also remember how I felt when I read what happened in Manchester.  I felt sick.  Truly sick and started crying.

I have no words in these sort of situations.  I’d tweet something out but really what good does that do?  I’m on the other side of the world and so wish I could go and help but all I could do was tweet a few things and just hope nothing else happened.

Like Ellen DeGeneres says, be kind to one and other.  It doesn’t cost anything to be kind.  Smile, say thank you, brightens someones day.  There is enough heartache and tragedy going around and a little bit of positivity won’t do any harm.

There is a silver lining, if you could say that.  In times of tragedy like this you see how kind the world can be.  People offering their homes, business and what not for places of shelters - they’re not The Avengers but they’re heroes for lending a helping hand.  There can be such beauty in our world in times of tragedy.

Sending love all around the world xxx

May Top Five

May where have you gone?!  I feel like this has been the quickest month so far, easily.

And that means it's time for the monthly Top Five!  Hope you like it!

Gardenscapes - This app is one of the few times that an ad has made me check something out.  I usually never play games like this but am loving this one!  Essentially you've inherited a garden to you get to repair it and bring it back to life!  So you play levels to gain stars which then allow you to complete tasks to make your garden beautiful!  Some levels are very easy, especially right at the beginning and then you'll get some which are uber challenging and for me who isn't going to pay to get more lives or extra boosts so sometimes in stuck on levels for ages but it's all good in the end!!

Harry Styles - OH HOW I HAVE MISSED THIS VOICE!!!  And what an amazing album this is!!  If you're avoiding listening to this because of One Direction, just give it a listen then make your call as to whether you like it or not!  I was going to write which songs were my favourite but couldn't narrow it down!!  I do however love Only Angel and Ever Since New York but genuinely every song on this album is a massive thumbs up from me!

Jockey Slippers - I had a pair of slippers for an extremely long amount of time..  I'm talking maybe 10 years hahahah I adored them and they were great and cosy and you could fold them down so they were ankle height and they had some fluffy bits and were just perfect.  Sadly they were also on their last legs so I knew I had to get a new pair soon.  Then it was summer of 15/16 and I didn't need them and when I was moving my bedroom furniture around I pulled them out from under my bed and they were dusty and then a spider crawled out of them.  And so because of that spider the slippers were gone hahaha  now these slippers may not look cool or ready for the runway but they are so comfortable and it just feels like you're wearing another pair of socks which is just perfect for me!!

Drawing aka using up all the pens I had from university - From university, I have a bit of a collection of pens, pencils and everything you'd need for drawing.  I'm not the most amazing drawer out there but I like to do what I can and one morning, Mum mentioned Zentangle to me and I got inspired.  So I just printed off an a4 page with a bunch of circles on them and just started drawing patterns!  I find drawing to be quite relaxing and have made a few drawings for my family and friends and they have loved them!  So recently I have just been drawing patterns in whatever shapes and ideas come to my mind and I just adore them!!  I've been asked whether I'd sell any of them which is insane and also awesome so we'll have to see what happens!!

House Rules - This is a house renovating challenge show which is currently on tv and while I never watched any of the other seasons I made sure to watch this one because Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen is one of the judges and I am obsessed with him!  I love a good design show and do get annoyed when there is more drama between the teams than actually design and seeing them do everything, but I still love seeing the end results of the room!  I've got my support behind the Tasmanian team but there are three other teams that I wouldn't mind who won!

And there we have my Top Five for May!  I am also that person who was very unorganised with her blog and is writing this hours before it's due to be published...

What have you been loving in May?

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

How I Create Sets On Polyvore

What do you do when you can't have the wardrobe or home of your dreams?  Go to Polyvore and create sets after sets which are full of your dream clothing and furniture pieces.

Polyvore is a website which I discovered in 2014, so quite a while ago and one which I am obsessed with.  I used to post about the sets I had created back in the day and you can check them out here, here, here and here if you’d like!  If you want to see more posts in the future of what I’m creating on Polyvore do let me know!

How I create Polyvore sets has changed dramatically since I first started creating sets on their 3 years and it’s quite funny to see.  I’m tempted to go back and make it all cohesive but then again I’m not sure because it’s nice to see how everything has grown….  Started from the bottom now we here, type situation…

I have a “template” that I like to follow when I’m creating sets on Polyvore.  I say “template” but it’s not a physical template, it’s more of a guide of how I like to lay everything out.  There are templates available on Polyvore for you to use and you can also create some yourself but I like the method I’m using.

My “template” is something which I’ve stuck to for a while now and one which I find it versatile for multiple set types.  It’s a rectangular shape and it pretty straight forward to set up and fill in.  For an outfit set which includes jeans or pants, they will go on the left and the height which I set them as will determine the height for the set.  I then, using block colour, will put two lines above and below the jeans to show the space which I’m working within.  On the right hand side, I like to include an image.  This image could be of an outfit I’ve drawn inspiration from, something which relates to the activity that the outfit could be worn in, a celebrity because who doesn’t want to pretend they’re going to be hanging out with celebs, or just a pretty image or two which just match in with the colour theme of the set.

Colour themes…  That’s another thing, but I’ll talk about that later!

So actually onto how I create sets.

If I’m scrolling through my feed and see an item of clothing or furniture that I like, I’ll like it and go to create a new set and put that item in.  I’ll then start to base my sets around that item.  Sometimes if I’ve seen an outfit or photo of an interior I’ll like I’ll use that photo as inspiration and base my set around that.  In Polyvore there are images in there already and I’ll use them to be the foundations of some sets.

I have quite a few draft sets saved, some which are completed ready to be published and some which just have a few items in them.  If I was organise I’d be publishing them more often but I do forget hahaha

When I’m working on a set, I’ll just add items into it.  If I’m creating an outfit set, I’ll have lets say the jeans and then I’ll pick out multiples tops which I can pair with it and then multiple pairs of shoes and just start building up the outfit.  I’ll create an outfit that I’d gladly wear or something which I wish I could wear but it’d only ever happen in my dreams hahaha

Once I have the outfit pieces decided upon, I start to find a layout for how they’ll sit the best within the set.  This can take some fiddling with and might result in item changes but it’s worth it in the end.  When I first started creating sets, I’d just whip them up in no time, but nowadays I like to take more some and publish something that I’m really happy with.

Fillers are pretty big on Polyvore and can add a whole lot more to your set.  I like to use these fillers to do as the name suggests, to fill the set.  White space is great if you pull it off but white space can also make the set look blank, but really it’s up to your personal preference.  I put in fillers which match the outfit and relate to the set.  They can be anything really.  There are soosososososo many options.  Using the makeup items as fillers, cups, plates of food, books, textures and patterns, there are so many filler varieties!

Earlier I mentioned colour themes.  Some days I will base an item specifically around colour.  I’ve done this in the past and I love how they have turned out.  When you’re looking for items for your see you can set the colour of item which you’d like.  So you want to use red items, you change the colour selector to red and bam - an abundance or red items are at your fingertips.  I recently created a set which was based on greys and then soft pinks and purples, so when I was looking for items for this set, I would set the colour to grey and then also the soft pink and purple.

A cohesive colour palette is great for home sets because you can mix and match and really pair together, complimentary colours to create a beautiful set!

Once I have all the items I’d like in my set,I then just fiddle around with it until I’m happy.  I like to have clothing and furniture based items on the left hand side and keep the images and graphics to the right but this can change if the set requires.

Polyvore also sets competitions and these are a lot of fun to enter in.  You’re given a brief of sorts and there can be items which you must include in the set to enter.  They’re really good for challenging yourself with broadening what you’d usually create and you also get to see how other people have responded to the contest.

I’ve never placed in any of the sets I’ve entered into but that won’t stop me from trying!

And I think that’s it!  Polyvore sets are so much fun and really simple to create and I really urge you to pop on over there to have a look around it you don’t already have an account!

If you have any questions, let me know in the comments, I’m more than happy to help out!

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

The Laziest & Slowest Friday

Today was just meh.  If it was an emoji it would be this one 😑, followed with a bunch of these 😴...

You know days when you literally have nothing huge to do but I just wanted to sleep all day and just curl up and rest.  That was me!  I also have a sore back which I don't know how that came along but boy it's annoying!  I get that I'm a year older but back pain?  Come on!

I had a different post lined up for today, 'Are We Living In A Bubble' and it's taking a but longer than I expected.  Which is annoying but it's the type of thing that I won't want to rush and publish something that I'm not really happy with!

But how have you all been?  Had a good week?

I had some exciting plans happen start to come together earlier this week and I'm very much looking forward to the little adventure I'm having next week!   When my friend asked me about it I got so excited and what is planned, oh I am just so keen!  I don't want to spoil anything now because what I get up to will end up in a post of two but yay for a little adventure!

I also have been conquering my nerves around driving!!!  I've had two driving lessons and I am so chuffed with myself!  Granted I'm driving an automatic and it's quite different to a manual which is what I'll be driving later on (unless I'm terrible at it then I'll go back to auto) but dayuuuuum!  For someone who will come up with any excuse to not have to drive, I am giving myself virtual pats on the back!

My driving instructor is the coolest guy and I owe him a lot :)

Now I'm just sitting on the couch, watching episodes of The Voice, typing this up, keeping warm and just having a very lazy Friday.  I usually hate having days like this because I feel like I've missed out on an entire day.  I love feeling productive and while I've done the dishes and the towels have been folded, today has just been so slow and lazy.

I think rest is going to be on the agenda so my back can sort itself out :)

Do you have anything interesting planned for the weekend?

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

My Favourite Baking Posts | World Baking Day

On Snapchat this morning, I saw they had a filter (?) probably not a filter but one of those frames (I really don't know what is was) that goes around your photo (you probably know what I mean, you swipe and get the time and then weather eg!) and one for World Baking Day came up!

I do love a bit of baking and recently being in the kitchen is something which I find really enjoyable and relaxing.  Following the recipe and sometimes making things up myself, I love seeing the end result!  Doesn't matter whether it was a pass of a fail because I'll be able to learn how I'm able to improve, what to do and what not to do!!  I haven't had a huge disaster yet (touch wood) so I've always had something to eat after a spot of baking!

In honor of it being World Baking Day, I wanted to share with you all the baking posts I've published here on emmadaisy.  You may have seen them before or you could have missed them or never even laid your eyes on them, so either way you're in luck hahahah

Banana Weet-Bix Chop-Chip Muffins!!  These were really simple to make and were a hit with the family as well which was a nice bonus!

ANZAC Biscuits.  A classic biscuit, I love making these when it’s ANZAC Day (and any other time of the year) and they’re easy to make and do taste quite nice!

Chocolate Crackle Slice.  Throwback to when I attempted to do blogmas!  If you love chocolate you will LOVE this!  Very chocolatey, I mean VERY chocolatey!!

Chocolate Banana Muffins.  These ones, I’ve made a quite often since and they’re a strong favourite!  Chocolate and banana is a winning combination!!

Banana Pancakes For Breakfast!  My brother finds it weird how I love recipes which use banana all the time…  I think there a theme haha these are my go-to pancakes for breakfast when I want to give myself a little bit of a treat!  Love them!!

Baking Christmas Cookies For My Family!!  One of my favourite baking posts essentially for the sentimental reasons behind it!  Even though the element of surprise behind these delicious baked goods didn’t turn out how I planned they still went down a treat and I think my learners attempt at decorating looked pretty cute haha
Good Friday + Easter Cupcakes!  Who remembers these delicious cupcakes?  Could seriously enter into Masterchef with these heheh

And there we have the few baking posts I've done!  I thought there were more so I think that means I'm going to have to do a bit more baking and share it with you all!!  Although knowing me I've forgotten about some or missed some!

I love that is is World Baking Day.  Been looking at what other people have baked and I have new recipes I want to try out!  And the amount of cookie dough recipes I’ve seen….   Ohhhhh could do with some right now hahahah

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

24 Important Things In 24 Years

Yesterday I turned 24!  I don't look 24, I don't feel 24 but according to my birth certificate I'm technically 24!

So to celebrate, I've listed 24 things I've learnt in 24 years!

1.  Not everyone sticks around.  There isn't a magical glue which has the power to keep everyone around.  Although I'm sure UHU glue could do a pretty good job because that stuff is powerful as!

2.  You can say no.  If you don't want to go out and get coffee you have every right to say no you don't want to.  If someone asks you whether you like a band or movie and if you don't, again you have the right to say no and to not feel bad about it!  But on a more serious note, if you're not feeling comfortable in whatever situation you have every right to say no.

3.  Hard work pays off.  If you have a goal you want to achieve, you go out and do what it takes to get there!  Times will get tough but the hard work will pay off and be worth it in the end.  University is a great example of this for me!  I pushed myself so hard in my last two years and I don't think I could be any more prouder of myself!

4.  A quiet life ain't so bad.  Hands up if you've ever felt victimized for staying in on a Friday or Saturday night?  ME!  My goodness the amount of times people will have a go at you for choosing to stay in!  I've gone out with friends and had a good time, however I also love being comfy at home, doing my own thing.  A quiet life doesn't mean a boring life just like loud life doesn't mean an exciting one!

5.  You don't have to be a sheep and follow the crowd.  Sheep are great, cute lil fluffy things on legs but being like them and following the crowd isn't all that!  Be yourself!  It can take time and a lot of self confidence to do this but when you believe in yourself and do you, you'll see how great it is!

6.  Trying to fit in is exhausting.  I found this out in Grade 7 when I was 12 turning 13.  I just didn't fit in with the popular crowd at my high school and trying to keep up with them just wasn't my thing and it took some time to discover this but I'm so glad of it.

7.  I still don't feel 24.  And in saying this I don't know how old I feel personally..  I don't know if that's a good thing or not hahahahha

8.  Your hair will grow back.  I wanted a fringe in high school.  When I got my hair cut, I asked for a fringe.  I woke up the next morning hoping it was all a dream!  It grew out and I vowed to never ever get a fringe again.  When I was 16 I got myself another fringe.  Hasn't happened since......

9.  Trust your gut. Now this goes for both literally trusting your gut but also let's say first impressions and you know that gut instinct.  If your insides are feeling a bit iffy chances are you should acknowledge that feeling and get yourself to the nearest bathroom!!  However, trusting your gut with lets say first impressions.  Now yes they are first impressions, they could change but sometimes they don'tJust trust your gut and what you yourself, that inner self is telling you.   If you're iffy about a social situation, trust your gut.

10.  It's cool to listen to whatever music you want too.  Dear people of the world who listen to music.  I like One Direction.  *whispers of shock and omg that's so uncool*  yes I hear your comments and I've moved on and I still like listening to One Direction.  You want to listen to ACDC - YOU DO YOU!  Listen to Mozart, listen to Coldplay - just don't feel like your inferior for your music preferences.

11.  Not taking everything for granted and appreciate what you have.  I have to thank my parents for this one.  From a young age both my brother and myself were taught the value of things and learnt to not take everything for grantedAnything can happen.  Doesn't matter how little or big it is on the scale of things, from an item to people in your life, don't take it for granted.

12.  Yelling at the screen won't do anything.  The amount of times I've gotten annoyed at something that's happen on tv.....  If I had a dollar for every time!  I've given up with horror movies because you just know the person is going to investigate the mysterious noise outside so I have no sympathy for them.  Cruel, but come onnnnnnn!

13.  Falling for celebs isn't the best idea.  Life just isn't fair and I'm not in the same league as them or they're older or they're already with someone else....  Seriously not fair!!!  Also how come they make the "bad guys" look so good.  Tom Hiddleston with Loki, Tom Felton with Draco Malfoy, Sebastian Stan with the double whammy with the Winter Soldier and then Bubky Barnes.....  And then Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth and so many others but I won't list them hahhaa

14.  Don't let success go to your head and don't let failure go to your heart.  No one likes a show off and someone who constantly brags of their success.  It's not cool and it doesn't look cool either.  When I'd get a fantastic mark at university I'd tell my fam, close friends and maybe people who I studied with, I'd give myself a pat on the back and then that would be it, time to move on.  A pet peeve of mine is people who brag, I just can't stand it!  Now the flip side, failing.  I know this all too well and I have in the past let it eat me up inside.  It is one of the worst feelings failing but you need to flip that emotion and use it to your advantage.  Find out what went wrong, learn from your mistakes and move on!

15.  Social media isn't everything.  I was very late to the social media party as a whole.  I never had MySpace or MSN, I set up Facebook when I was in university and gradually moved to other forms of social media.  I've been on YouTube the longest but I've never had the guts to post something on there but you never know what may happen in the future!  Right at the start I used to be an over-sharer and ended up deleting photos from Instagram and things off Facebook but I grew up quite quickly on social media and am very good at just scrolling.  Granted I liked waaaaay too many things on Facebook last years so I've been going on there less and less.  BUT!  Social media isn't everything.  Snapchat streaks aren't everything and if you lost one, there are worse things to lose.  It doesn't matter how many followers you have, it's just a number at the end of the day.  Just like with how many likes you get on a photo or post.  There is a life outside of your phone and it's a lot bigger than your phone!

16.  You don't have to put up with "friends".  This one is tricky.  It's easy to cut out shapes however cutting out toxic people in your life is so incredibly tricky.  I'm going to be honest, I need to listen to this one myself.

17.  Tragedy can show you how beautiful the world can be.  Have you ever seen how the world rallies together when a tragedy strikes?  There are so many ways which we can show our support for our fellow humans and it's truly beautiful to see.

18.  Technology will always crash.  And usually at the worst times.  So remember to save everything and just prepare yourself.

19.  Realising that a list of 24 things is quite a lot.  Seriously I know I've learnt things but listing 24 of them is another thing!  I don't see myself doing this for when I turn 25 hahahah

20.  To stop apologising.  I can guarantee we've all said sorry for how our hair looks or sorry for looking frumpy in our outfit or saying sorry that we're not wearing makeup or that our makeup isn't perfect.  STOP!  You don't need to apologise for this!  Chances are no one noticed the fly aways on your hair and can see them now only because you've pointed them out.  Say sorry when you need to say sorry, but for not having your eyebrows on?  No don't waste your words!

21.  Sunshine can lift any mood.  Took me til my final year at university to see this one.  I'd follow the sun throughout the day and move to another part just to sit in the sun.  I wake up and open my curtains to the sunshine and it's such a mood lifter!  Even in the colder months when you get some winter sunshine, it's so GOOD!  And even better is going outside.  Bugs don't get personal space but think about that glorious sunshine!

22.  It is fine to be single.  It's not the end of the world to be single.  I've been in situations where out of everyone in my class I was the only one who was single and I'm like eh!  Loving yourself and realising how amazing you are is such a lovely thingThat last bit of pizza is going to always yours, no ifs or buts about it ;)
  23.  But it is also fine to constantly ask yourself why you're still single because seriously you are such a catch.  Like c'mon lads, where you at?

24.  Life goes on.  It does and it always will.  Just keep your chin up, keep smiling and being kind.

That was a bit of a wordy post!  If you got to the end, many points to you!  24 points to you ;)

I had a lovely birthday and thank you for the kind messages, really make my heart warm and fuzzy! :)

This was probably one of my favourite birthdays because I didn't have to deal with the university stresses like I had in the past, ah it was so good!

Do any of these things I've listed above resonate with you?  Or have you learnt something else personally?  Let me know down below :)

Until next time, keep smiling :)  Em xx

PS!  Come and say hello!!! :) x
